Five Years Back, a Different Groom
Chapter 2
Ethan’s expression changed immediately.
Even his voice trembled. “Claire, what did you say?”
The moment he finished speaking, Lily fainted beside him.
Ethan hurriedly scooped her up and carried her outside.
As he passed me, he glanced at me indifferently.
“Claire, you don’t need to lie just because you’re jealous.”
“If it weren’t for Lily, you’d be dead already!”
The bullet comments were all filled with disgust.
【If it weren’t for Lily, our girl would have been so happy!】
【You idiot. You’d rather trust an outsider than your own fiancée!】
Watching Ethan rush outside, I gave a self-mocking laugh and turned around to pack my things.
There were quite a few of Ethan’s belongings in the house.
I didn’t finish packing until dawn.
Just then, the door opened.
When Ethan saw the packed belongings, he hurried over and pulled me into his arms.
Lily’s faint milky scent filled my nose.
“Claire, I’m only good to Lily because I’m repaying her for saving you.”
“Don’t fight with me over her, okay?”
For the five years that followed, he had always coaxed me this way.
Back then, I foolishly thought everything he did was for me.
When I found out that Lily didn’t have any aftereffects from Baby Syndrome, I immediately told him.
But he only frowned and told me not to go too far.
“You’re slandering your own best friend because you’re jealous. Don’t you think you’re disgusting?”
“I believe Lily would never lie to me! I’ll take care of her for the rest of my life!”
My thoughts returned to the present, and I shoved Ethan away in disgust.
“I’m not fighting with you. My groom…”
Before I could finish, Ethan’s phone began ringing urgently.
After he hung up, he grabbed me and ran outside.
“Lily’s condition is getting worse. She can’t be without me now!”
As soon as we arrived at Ethan’s house, Lily threw herself into his arms.
“Ethan, the baby missed you so much!”
A trace of helplessness flashed in Ethan’s eyes as he looked at me, but he ultimately didn’t push Lily away.
He only explained carefully, “Don’t overthink it. Lily is just used to having me around.”
I shrugged indifferently.
“My best friend doesn’t want me around, but she’s used to having you.”
“If I didn’t know better, I’d think you two were a couple.”
The sarcasm made Ethan’s face flush red.
He hesitated, unsure how to explain.
Lily bit her lip and shoved the baby-bottle pendant into my mouth.
“Don’t be mad, Big Sister. You can drink too.”
【Drink my ass! Who doesn’t know there’s something drugged inside that thing?】
【If you hadn’t drugged him, Ethan never would have slept with you!】
I looked at the bullet comments, then at Lily’s deliberately foolish expression.
I frowned and slapped her hand away. “Get lost!”
The baby-bottle pendant flew in an arc and fell out the window.
“Ethan gave that to me! Don’t!”
Lily immediately made a fuss and tried to grab it.
Ethan hurriedly stopped her.
When he saw her tearful, pitiful expression, the trace of guilt he had felt toward me was completely swallowed by anger.
“Claire, do you have no heart? Lily only wanted to get closer to you!”
“Apologize to her!”
I sneered. “Is she even worthy?”
The veins on Ethan’s forehead throbbed with anger.
“If you don’t apologize to Lily today, you can forget about marrying me for the rest of your life!”
During the five years of my previous life, Ethan had threatened me with canceling the wedding countless times.
Every time, my heart had hurt so badly that I could barely breathe.
But now, I only glanced at him coldly.
“Then we won’t get married.”
“Besides, the groom I’m marrying isn’t you.”
