Chapter 5
Once in the car, she immediately changed her expression, beaming. “After I reamed him out, the female lead will definitely cry to him for comfort. That way, their relationship will warm up faster, and I can go home sooner!”
Not wanting to spoil her mood, I agreed repeatedly, though I wasn’t entirely convinced.
After all, a CEO’s every second at work was precious; on average, millions of dollars could pass through their hands each second.
A competent CEO shouldn’t be too distracted during work hours.
But… I couldn’t help but feel a little sad.
This was a novel world, after all. Maybe he *would* abandon a million-dollar deal for a smile from his beloved?
In the evening, Alex called to say he had a work dinner and wouldn't be home for dinner.
Chloe was secretly thrilled, but she pretended to be angry, taking the opportunity to sarcastically remark about him before agreeing.
“Do you think he’ll get tipsy tonight and end up getting intimate with Lily?”
She chattered on, making continuous guesses.
It was clear she was desperate to speed up the plot and go home.
But I never liked to jump to conclusions about uncertain things, so I mostly remained silent.
Chloe suddenly stopped, then carefully asked:
“Vivian, I’ve known you for a while now. Why don’t you talk much?”
“You don’t… actually love Alex, do you?”
I was stunned.
To be honest, that question… I hadn't really thought about it.
Chloe thought she’d hit the nail on the head and sighed wistfully:
“Then you must be really sad every time you see them together.”
