Those narrow, pointed blue embroidered shoes remained firmly in my line of sight, unwavering.

Wait a second! Aren't those… the kind you only see in old movies, meant for the dead? Burial shoes?

The atmosphere quickly turned eerie. My palms were slick with sweat.

Mr. Thorne barked, “Someone give up their seat for the lady with the baby!”

My head was still bowed, my hands clammy.

In the middle of the bus, there were yellow seats marked for priority seating.

Why wasn't she waiting there for someone else to offer their seat? Why *me*? Why was she specifically standing in front of me?
