Chapter 6
I’ve never had trouble sleeping, ever since I was a kid. I could fall asleep anywhere.
The sofa here, though not big, was incredibly soft. I woke up already the next day, around noon.
I woke up to the loud sound of chopping bones coming from the kitchen.
Chloe had her hair tied up with a single chopstick, wielding a cleaver up and down.
She actually hadn’t woken me up and kicked me out?
“Still here?”
She seemed to sense me behind her; her chopping paused slightly.
“This place is too remote. I don’t know the way out, and I don’t have money for the bus fare home.”
My heart trembled with each chopped bone, but I still forced myself to voice my thoughts.
Last night, I almost got lost here.
She slowly turned to look at me, a hint of sarcasm in her smile. “Then don’t leave. Anyway, the other girls like you.”
My body tensed. I didn’t say anything.
She ignored me again, continuing to chop the bones with force, as if that pig was her sworn enemy.
Seeing me standing there, staring the whole time, she finally lost her patience. “Can you, you little punk, get your priorities straight?”
“Your mom owes me millions, you’re the hostage I took, and you want me to give you bus fare home?”
“Are you out of your mind?”
I was so startled I nodded blankly, then shook my head.
Then I followed closely behind her, arriving at the poker table downstairs.
“I swear to God, I can’t take it anymore! Just take the money and get out!”
Chloe dug a few bills out of her pocket and threw them at me, then sat down and lit a cigarette.
I clutched the money, standing there, hesitant.
“Still not leaving?”
“Can you drive me down the mountain? I feel like the road is a bit far…”
Chloe’s eyes widened, so angry she almost coughed up blood.
“You took my money, and you still want me to drive you down the mountain? You’ve got some nerve!”
“Get out, or I’ll chop you up too!”
My heart jumped, but I still didn’t move.
“Sister, I don’t think you’d chop me up.”
“Damn it!”
Chloe pulled a scythe from somewhere, and I ran off in terror, disappearing in an instant.
This woman is definitely not a good person!
I fled in tears, thinking I was finally leaving this scary place.
Two hours later, I was back.
