Reborn Nurse Manager: Searing The Scalpel of Truth

Chapter 2

Logan scowled. “Nursing duties are your department. Why should a doctor step in?”

“You’re just being narrow-minded, intentionally picking on Chloe. Honestly, you don’t deserve to be nurse manager!”

To think my husband, the chief of pediatric medicine, could utter such an unprofessional excuse. I looked at him with sheer contempt.

“Are you seriously telling me you don’t know how fragile that newborn is?”

“Besides, an intern should never have been assigned solo care for a high-risk infant in the first place. She’s the one who pounded her chest and demanded full responsibility. If anything goes wrong, who answers for it?”

The moment Chloe’s sister-in-law delivered, the newborn’s vitals had flagged severe concerns.

The nursing station unanimously agreed that Senior Nurse Lisa, with decades of neonatal experience, should oversee the care. But Chloe threw a tantrum and insisted on taking charge.

“This is my own nephew, my sister-in-law’s precious baby! I know all the protocols, and I care far more than any outsider ever could! Plus, my family trusts me!”

Those words had completely dismissed Lisa’s years of expertise, making Lisa’s face turn green with indignation.

As her supervisor, I was naturally the first to shoot down such an absurd request.

Yet Logan had overruled everyone, insisting we had to “give interns a chance to grow.” That was the only reason this circus was allowed to happen.

Having his authority challenged in front of Chloe stung Logan’s pride. Reluctantly, he glanced down at the tightly wrapped bundle in her arms.

Then, he went dead silent.

Chloe looked up at him nervously, tugging on the hem of his white lab coat with an imploring expression.

I could tell Logan had noticed something was wrong, and I felt a faint wave of relief.

The very next second, he casually turned back toward me.

“The baby is completely fine. What’s the harm in holding him for a minute?”

My jaw dropped in sheer disbelief.

If I hadn’t lived through this once and taken that cold, lifeless corpse with my own hands, I might have actually believed him.

Logan was lying!

He clearly saw that the infant had flatlined. He had to know why Chloe was so desperate to push the child onto me.

And yet, he still demanded that I take the fall?

A vivid memory flashed before my eyes—the final moments before my death, when Logan had stood firmly beside Chloe from beginning to end.

Looking at Chloe’s hand clutching his lab coat, the truth clicked instantly, freezing my blood cold.

“Logan Miller, how long have you two been sleeping together?”
