A massive debt of $1.3 million! In our small town, even if we sold our house, it wouldn't be enough!

"No way, I'm going to Scarlett's place to talk to her mother-in-law. After all, they were married, and her son spent all that money. Now he wants to just wash his hands of it!"

With that, she dragged Dad out like a whirlwind.

I don't know what Mom and Scarlett's mother-in-law discussed, but when I got home from work, I found Mom surprisingly calm.

"Mom, how was it today? Is Scarlett's debt problem solved?"

Mom glanced at me, as if she had something specific to say but then said nothing.

"What good could David's mother say? All she did was push blame!"

That night, just as I fell asleep, I felt a rustling sound in my room.

I jolted awake. "Who's there?!"

The person seemed startled. "Chloe, it's Mom. I came to see if you were covered properly!"

She then said, "You're sleeping soundly, so I'll leave," and quietly exited.

So, you finally came, Mom.

My heart finally settled, and a sense of liberation washed over me.

After a while, I quietly got up and crept to my parents' bedroom door.

"This vile little wretch, I don't know where she hid her ID. I just couldn't find it. What are we going to do?"

Mom complained to Dad, agitated,

"If we can't borrow this money, Scarlett is finished! Chloe, that vile little wretch, she has no family feeling at all!"
