Chapter 2
As a transmigrator, Chloe was absolutely enraged.
She cursed at me repeatedly, “I’ve been kissing up to him for a whole damn year, and he still won’t let me near him?!”
“What, is he gay or something?!”
“How am I supposed to do tasks like ‘getting owned by the female lead’ and ‘successfully playing the jealous harpy’ later?!”
“Ugh, this is too hard. Just let me die, I want to go home!”
“…”
I wanted to speak, but in the end, amid Chloe's furious ranting, I silently slipped into my memories.
I had to admit, Alex’s reaction was a bit unexpected.
Because, in my memory, he wasn’t actually averse to my closeness.
Like on the day I lost control of my body—which was also our wedding night.
The guests had tactfully left after the celebration, and he stumbled toward me, bending down, his face flushed slightly. He closed his eyes and leaned in as if to kiss me.
A faint scent of wine and crisp cologne enveloped me, but I didn’t dare move.
Yet, his breathing had quickened, and the veins on his hands were bulging.
So I couldn’t help but wonder, for a moment, if he was… nervous too?
But just as he was about to touch me, there was a *boom* in my head, and I lost consciousness.
When I became aware of Chloe’s presence, it was already the third day.
Chloe said that when she woke up in my body, she was in a hospital.
At the time, Alex’s face was terrifyingly grim, watching the doctor meticulously give her a full body check-up.
She was so scared she didn’t dare say anything, so she just continued to feign sleep.
But ever since then, Alex’s attitude toward “me” had been consistently distant.
Though, he’d always been a bit distant with me.
He was just that type of person, always keeping a certain distance.
I had no idea how he would be conquered by a clumsy, sweet-but-useless type like Lily.
Perhaps, that’s what they call a “contrast effect.”
Is this… the charm of CEO novels?
Seeing Alex retreat to the door with a wary, almost panicked look, as if terrified Chloe would take advantage of him in the slightest…
I found it both amusing and, strangely, a little sour in my heart.
Did he really not want to be close to me?
I shook my head, trying to get my thoughts back on track.
This was about Chloe’s mission and my future, after all!
So, I wondered again, could it be that my unexpected fainting that night had scared him, leaving him with a psychological shadow?
I don’t know what the system said, but Chloe took a deep breath, then feigned sadness. “You, you… what’s wrong with you?”
Alex frowned, a look of distaste on his face. “What did you do to yourself?”
Chloe: “...?”
Alex impatiently rubbed his temples. “Go clean yourself up.”
Chloe followed his gaze down and finally saw the coffee stains all over her clothes.
…Right.
Alex, like me, was a bit of a germaphobe.
Sure enough, he said coldly, “If you can’t make coffee, don’t force it. If you break the coffee machine, remember to pay for it yourself.”
After saying that, he picked up his briefcase and went to the guest bedroom.
Looking utterly heartless, as if out of sight, out of mind.
