Before Jackson’s grandmother passed away, she left one last wish: that Jackson would marry me.

So, even when he fell for Chloe, the woman he’d always considered his true love, Jackson still insisted on marrying me.

That was, until Chloe deliberately ran over the puppy I’d raised since I was little.

Jackson, once again, chose to protect Chloe. This time, I didn't argue or yell. I simply contacted Professor Davies at a highly classified desert research facility, ready to become a research scientist there.

Before I left, I gave myself seven days to tie up loose ends.

Day one, I took off the engagement ring that symbolized “forever.”

Day three, I handed in my resignation at work.

On the day I left, Jackson suddenly remembered the puppy. He actually offered to buy me a new one the next day.

Then, he added, “Chloe’s going to the company’s charity gala. Make sure her gown is ready for her.”

I smiled and agreed, then vanished from his world forever.

Later, every time he heard news about me, Jackson would stare blankly at our engagement ring.
