Chapter 2
At that moment, the blade was barely a millimeter from my eyebrow, but in just a few minutes, the woman holding it would be completely smitten with me.
Because I’d decided to tell a lie, though I’ve told countless lies in my life.
“Actually, I…”
*SMACK!*
Okay, fine.
This awful woman wasn’t smitten; she just slapped me.
“The blade’s practically on your face, and you’re still winking at me? You’re asking for it!”
Chloe turned and walked away. I was left hanging upside down from the ceiling, swinging back and forth.
Like a giant pendulum, I felt incredibly dizzy!
“Chloe, I’m getting hypnotized by this guy.”
One of the other women rubbed her forehead, whining playfully to Chloe.
Chloe barely spared me a glance, then pushed her stack of cards across the table. “Stop making excuses. Full house, pay up.”
There were a few scattered bills on the table; they weren’t playing for high stakes.
“What are you looking at? Stare any longer and I’ll gouge your eyes out!”
Chloe glared at me, then plunged her knife into the poker table. It nearly made me cry.
She’s so scary!
The others looked at me, whispering amongst themselves.
“Chloe, he’s got such soft skin. Are you sure he won’t get hurt hanging there?”
“Don’t those pretty boys in the industry usually throw a fit and demand an ER visit for just a tiny scratch?”
Pretty boy?
Those delicate men whose wounds would heal if they didn’t get to the hospital immediately?
I’m a tough guy, alright!
Chloe looked at me and sneered. My body gave an involuntary shudder.
It wasn’t that I was scared; it was just that this woman felt more terrifying than a wild animal.
“So concerned about him? Want me to arrange a wedding for you two?”
“Uh, cough, c-can you?”
That sister gave me a surprised glance, her eyes shining.
“Don’t you want your money back? Are you just here to find dates now, huh?”
Chloe snapped, and everyone else immediately fell silent.
But my ears started ringing. Yeah, being hung upside down for this long was really getting to me.
*SMACK!*
Chloe slammed her hand on the table, stood up, and declared, “I’m done playing. Time to eat.”
She started to leave.
“I, I want to eat too…”
Chloe paused, then turned back and glared at me.
She then told the people around her, “Get him down. He’s annoying to look at.”
…
Damn it, who was it that hung me up in the first place?
