My Groom Ran to His First Love, So I Married Someone Better
Chapter 1
The night before my wedding, I open Josh's phone to free up storage for our wedding photos.
That's when I see it. The Recently Deleted folder.
Fifteen screenshots. Same girl. Bikini shots. Bed selfies. One of her lying on white sheets, half-naked, biting her lip. Caption: "Waiting for you, Joshy. I can't stop thinking about you."
I hand him the phone. No screaming. No crying. I just want the truth.
Josh stands out on the balcony for half the night. When he finally comes back in, he smells like a whole pack of Marlboros. His voice is scratchy.
"Okay, look. Back in college, yeah, I had a thing for her. She's been going through it lately, so I pulled some strings and got her a desk job at the branch office. That's it. I know what matters. You're what matters."
Seven years. Seven years of my life I dumped into this man. And I'm supposed to walk away over a folder full of screenshots?
I'm not losing. Not like this.
Next morning, I put on a full face of makeup, slip into my white dress, and walk into the courthouse with him.
I'm holding the pen. About to sign the marriage license. That's when Josh's phone buzzes. Voice memo. From his boy Ryan.
"Yo, Josh! Lindsay just found out you're getting married, bro! She's up on the roof! She won't come down!"
The pen slices right through the paper.
Josh shoots up out of his chair. Grabs his car keys.
I look him dead in the eye. My voice goes ice cold.
"Josh. You walk out that door right now, and you never sign this. Ever."
He didn't even look back. He shoved the door open and bolted.
