The Shenango Valley's premier Labor Day event returns to Buhl Park for its 40th consecutive year!
The day kicks off with a memorial service in Oakwood Cemetery honoring Frank and Julia Buhl. A parade beginning at Kraynak's will follow past the Hermitage Towne Plaza and into the park. Other activities include: honoring of the 2020 Buhl Day honorees at the Performing Arts Center, a juried art show at the casino, two shows from the Buhl Mermaids at the pool, live entertainment at the Performing Arts Center, food booths from numerous organizations at various sites in the park, free helium balloons near the Performing Arts Center, and many other activities.
Buhl Park is the setting for what has become a day long tradition for families that flock to Mercer County every Labor Day.
Music, live entertainment, children's games and activities, inflatable rides, pony rides, and puppet shows show are just part of the fun. Some of the most popular annual events include a car show and a mermaid show at the pool with synchronized swimming performances.
Buhl Day began in 1916 when Frank H. Buhl gave his employees the day off on Labor Day and his employees thanked him by parading past his house into the park that he gave to the community. They held a picnic in the park. . The celebration went on hiatus during World War II and did not resume again until 1979 when volunteers revived the program.
Admission is free to everyone. Donations will be accepted on event day at the Buhl Day booth on Pokorney Drive near the Performing Arts Center.
Buhl Day, which operates as a separate 501c(4), utilizes the beauty and the facilities of Buhl Park to host their annual event. This non-profit organization operates independently of the Buhl Park Corporation. Buhl Day is governed by an executive committee and supported by a large general committee of volunteers who work to run the event and keep Frank Buhl's vision of Buhl Day alive. All decisions regarding Buhl Day are handled by the Buhl Day committee.
